The Resort & Island, QLD, Australia - For Sale

ISLAND OVERVIEW

The Island is a tropical island located approximately 29 kilometres by water (or 30 minutes
by boat) east of Cairns central business district and approximately 23 kilometres in a direct line. The island is a total of 339 hectares and is 4.2 km long, 2km wide and it’s peak rises to 268 metres above sea level.

This Isalnd is one of only two significant tourist islands off Cairns, the other being Green Island. Green and The Islands are roughly the same distance from Cairns, however Green Island is a coral cay and The Island is terra firma as the island was part of the mainland until sea rises some thousand of years ago.

The expression “where the rainforest meets the reef” couldn’t be more literal than at the island with a massive 94% of the island containing pristine, undisturbed rainforest protected by National Parks and beaches which fall away into the magnificent world heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.

Land Description
The Island is a large continental island located approximately 23 kilometres due east of the Cairns central business district and approximately 6 kilometres east from the mainland. The island has an area of approximately 340 hectares of which the vast majority is National Park.

The leased area is an irregular shaped beach front parcel generally comprising easy sloping land rising along the southern boundary into reasonably steep rainforest. The entire frontage is to a tropical island beach which comprises broken coral and sand with overhanging shade trees. The southern section, which is partly rain forested, is dispersed by small to large granite boulders. The island has reef fringes, clear water and generally provides a picturesque setting. The site provides a good building contour without adverse features.
